Severe Scarring, No Accountability, and Shockingly Poor Customer Service I went to Charette Cosmetics on **October 22** because their brand is known for specializing in treatments for **skin of color**. I came in with only a few small areas of pigmentation on my back and was recommended microneedling combined with a deep chemical peel. Unfortunately, the procedure severely damaged my skin. Every area that was microneedled has now turned into a scar. What were once small spots are now **nickel-sized scars**, including one that is rectangular in shape, matching the exact pattern of the treatment. My skin now looks significantly worse than when I arrived. At my 4-week follow-up, the staff appeared surprised and told me **“this has never happened before.”** They attempted a pico laser test spot, which made no improvement, and said they needed to consult their medical adviser for next steps. I never received any follow-up or treatment plan because the assumption was that pico would work. It did not. The office manager, jillian, has been consistently rude, dismissive, and lacking empathy. At one point, she even suggested that a bra strap may have caused the scarring—even though the scars match the microneedled areas exactly and are nowhere near where a strap sits. To be clear: I did not wear a bra at all during the healing period, nor did I exercise or go in the sun, exactly as their team instructed. Being blamed for something caused by the procedure was not only inaccurate but also offensive. When the pico laser didn’t work and I still had no follow-up from their team, I asked for a partial or full refund. Jillian refused, telling me they “don’t normally do that unless it’s an unusual circumstance,” despite their own staff repeatedly stating that this outcome was something they had “never seen before”. After waiting three days with no communication from them, I opened a dispute with my bank due to the lack of resolution. Once Charette Cosmetics learned the bank was involved, they told me they would no longer provide any corrective treatment or communication with me moving forward. This was their decision, not mine. I have since consulted a board-certified dermatologist, who confirmed that someone with my skin tone should never have undergone microneedling combined with a deep chemical peel, due to the high risk of exactly the type of scarring I now have. I paid $1,500, plus an additional $50 for the follow-up, only to end up with significant scarring, no accountability, and some of the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. For a company that markets itself as specializing in skin of color, this entire experience has been deeply disappointing. Do better, Charette Cosmetics.
